Title: 140kg squat challenge
Post by: Glen Danbury on August 17, 2011, 08:35:48 AM
dissapointed with my effort on this but will get the ball rolling

bit silly doing it two days after high rep deads as my hamstrings and lower back where still tender to the touch and you can see from rep fifteen onwards i start leaning further and further forward which just ended up loading the lowerback and hams even more

in two weeks have another attempt when not in agony - post video later today  ;D

Awesome m8, and especially with you not fully recovered!! Since i twisted my knee i cant even get under a bar with more than 120kg on it...doing my head in, havent been able to get down to monster either cos the pain ofdriving after doing legs is too much.

Looking forward to your next attempt fully recovered!!!

Going to target thirty with the thought of best wheels trophy next year as motivation

Nice lifting Glen, I'll have to have a bash at this one aswell. You certainly have a fair sets of wheels mate, mine on the other hand remain hidden 99% of the time under jog pants so as not to offend. :'(

Odd how it's taken this long to get our first 140 squat. Cant see anyone beating you any time soon though Glen. Hope it doesn't demotivate others from trying!

Nice work!

Going to see if I can film my squats tomorrow night - more for checking form than anything else - but looking at those, its fair to say we have very different techniques... mine probably the worse, lmao!

My attempt from yesterday. It nearly killed me and won't be attempting it anytime in the near future. Almost fell over whilst re-racking it, the legs had totally gone to jelly, high reps arent for me ???

bring it on mate i am fired up as i have decided which show i am doing next year and there's a fresh fire in the belly.

You want the 180kg top spot and i want the 220kg top spot ;D

That's a mistake on my part Glen. I always used mixed grip as I never train with straps. I have only used them for these challenges as its probably worth at least an extra two reps. I messed up on the 220 the other day, didn't realise I used a mixed grip until afterwards. Maybe would have hit 9 with a double overhand, next time eh. What comp are you doing next year, have you decided to come over to powerlifting?

Will post video later, not happy though. Hips feel knackered from squats Monday, Deadlift Wednesday and squatting again today.

Not the thirty reps i wanted tomorrow, just feel like the bar is rolling down my back too much and comeback too pumped.

Work on shoulder tightness, chalk upperback and do these again fresh  :D

third attempt at this done this morning and was better than the last so have not bothered to upload that one

despite simon coming forward i can assure you he did not actually touch me - had to mute the sound on this video as did not want the expletives I was stating to simon to come across on youtube as he went to spot me ;D

I am sure i have thirty in me - I just dont seem to have the bottle to stand and continue doing it breathing squat style to eek them out

wobbly leg time Col - over to you mate  ;D

Title: Re: 140kg squat challenge
Post by: Jon on August 31, 2011, 10:38:33 AM
Simon was just itching to spot you there Glen.  ;D

Fantastic effort though. I noticed you seem to carry the bar quite low on your traps.

Shame the audio was muted as I think it can add a bit of drama to the vid.

Over to you then Col.  ;)

Title: Re: 140kg squat challenge
Post by: Glen Danbury on August 31, 2011, 10:48:42 AM
yes i have favoured this for the last year or so as the bar feels better in this position, although on the higher rep staff I loosen up to much and the bar slips abit

you would not have wanted to know what i called simon  ;D I feel really guilty now as he was only trying to keep me safe  ;D

Well done Glen awesome squatting, that must have hurt.   ;D With yor Squats do you vary between high reps and low reps in your training ?

Title: Re: 140kg squat challenge
Post by: Glen Danbury on August 31, 2011, 02:30:25 PM
at the moment yes - we do one week of high reps (15-20+) then the following week of low reps (3-8)

Nice lifting Jamie, interesting to see you complete single reps and rest for a short time which is probably good for conserving energy but then your under the bar for longer, maybe I'll have to give this technique a bash. 25+ next time mate :)

Insane!  :o

Just holding that weight on your back for 2 minutes 30 must be agony, let alone the actual squats - which were all of great depth too.

Hey guys,

not sure if this challenge board is still "active". Posting video of me squatting with 270lbs + 55lbs bar = 325lbs/147kg or something like that.
It was "just" a regular workout and I haven`t done free squats for a very long time as I do squats lately only in the power rack/rack squats from a dead point ( just hit 210kg last week for couple of singles ). But in the middle of set I decided to push myself and instead of 2-3 sets I`ve done only one giant set to failure. Not sure if it will qualify for this board but just wanna share this with you.

Nice. Always wanted to have another crack at these but how rough I felt last time will give it a miss.

Great squatting :)
