Title: UKDFBA UK & International - whos going to watch
Post by: mattgriff90 on August 13, 2016, 09:57:05 AM
Hi All,

Who going to watch the UKDFBA uk & International on 16th October?
Wondered who would be going to watch?
The Pro class should be incredible!
Plus alway good to see this years best on stage...

Hell yeah, should be show of the year potentially. UKDFBA has been stacked even as an open final. Qualifiers will ensure every single competitor is of the standard we expect and lots of the UK scenes big guns come out to play for this title as it leads to the most prestigious next leg - the WNBF Worlds in the USA.

Pro class is shaping up to be epic with confirmed or rumoured entrants - Gozdecki, Grey, Gibson, Kuric, Adams, Petro, Milan, and I am sure more will line up. You can only wish that Kaye, Williams, Cooper, Mark Claxton would come and throw their hats into the ring too

I literally can't wait now.  Never been so nervous and excited about a show in the whole 20 years I've been promoting.

For those of you on FB, follow the link below to the event page, click "going" and give it a share. With the right crowd, the atmosphere will be ridiculous.

I am beside myself with excitement for this one. The biggest natural show these shores have seen, in terms of both numbers and depth of athlete. If your even half interested in bodybuilding you'd not want to miss this.

Which section is the natural muscle area? We need to create a hostile pocket of fans like you might find at Millwall on a Saturday afternoon!

Seriously though looking forward to seeing everyone again- what a venue! Can we get Toby Hines to play a number on that grand piano at the interval?

Hm, maybe the NM area could be that nice fat section of chairs in the middle?  ;D

Not sure if the piano is included? Perhaps the free-posing routines can be done to live music this year!

Bit more info about the venue...

Butterworth Hall

In 2009 our 1,500 seat concert hall was closed for a major multi-million pound redevelopment and now is a state of the art concert hall fit for the 21st Century. There is a new hydraulic stage, new flooring, new seats, improved acoustic and full wheelchair access as well as brand new technical equipment. In addition we can provide a stunning new rehearsal/performance space and new dressing rooms for artists and performers.

I don't have any kit from anywhere anymore except a very old DFAC tshirt that's too small for me!  :-[ And I wouldn't go to one fed's show, wearing another's kit.

I'm even going to the NPA Finals, to support Lucy Walton, if MJP lets me in the front door  ;D
I don't get the whole baiting malarkey. If people played more nicely, perhaps everyone would go to everyone's shows  ;)  :P

Just received our 114'th entry to the show today (which includes the overseas amateur contingent and the Pro entries of course) and felt compelled to book the studio next door to the main hall for some extra athlete space, because they deserve it  ;)

Report for the last qualifier written and submitted to our long suffering web master (ahem...) so head down for me for the next three weeks to try and make sure the big one lives up to expectation!

I'll make sure the heating is on Dawn to save you having to wear a jacket  8)

I am thinking of getting there once the Bikini and Men's Physique classes have done, I find them so boring and really don't understand what they are looking for so its hard to make small side bets with whoever is sitting next to me  ;D

Just popping out for a brew or a bite to eat while those classes on would be a far more rational option.....

Any chance of a list of who's competing?

There are one or two amateurs on the list who didn't want their entries to be public knowledge so I'm keeping it quiet.  Pros wise, I'll announce the lineups over the weekend.

146 is huge  :o  :o I'm taking bets on finish time if anyone wants one  ;D

I'll have a slice of that bet.  We'll have the overall lineup onstage just after 9pm and the curtain down by half past.  It'll be the earliest finishing final this season. Trust me  ;)

Who we all leaning towards as the big winners?

I have either Ben or Sam as the new WNBF pro.
Gozdecki as the winner of the male WNBF international.
Jorun Larsen Morkore taking FBB
No idea on figure

I've been looking forward to this!
I'm still undecided on Rich or Adrian for the male pro but believe Sam Watt is a strong bet to be the next WNBF pro.
I assume if he did win, he would be in the same pro class show as Rich etc the same day?

Thoroughly enjoyed the day. The Butterworth hall really is a superb venue and was truly fitting for a British finals and International show of this magnitude. It was great meeting up with so many people on the forum too :)

Well done to all the competitors, some fantastic battles onstage and it made for some very tight judging decisions indeed. Lee and Amy excelled themselves this year with the work they've put into the federation, they're a real credit to the natural sport.

Nice one Lee and everyone competing. The venue and standard looked awesome on the live feeds coming through. I would have loved to have been able to to come and watch with Matt and Toby etc bit had only just got back from Oz so could no way have gotten a pass.

Really looking forward to the write up.

How did Superplex Steve do?

Great to see you all yesterday! What an absolutely superb show with a perfect venue, backstage was spot on in terms of running (galts you star). Definitely recommend from an athletes perspective if you get the chance then do it.

The pro class yesterday was the best thing I've seen in the flesh at a natural show. Gozdecki, gray and Adam were breathtaking. All shredded and massive. Adrian has some worldly shots (front lay spread, double bi jump to mind) but for me Richard was a deserving winner on the basis of completeness in physique (not to say Adrian is not!) due to his legs. Just brilliant I will never forget that.

Sam watt would have been very comparable in that line up to, pleased to see him turn pro after the last few years and am sure he will be a challenger in the pro wnbf worlds.

Ben Howard you superstar! Great class victory and a pro in the making- again the inbf don't know what's coming mate.

Kempy and the team- wonderful job. Considering what you have created is voluntary the professionalism is superb and the federation once again gets a tick as a "must compete" if you are in shape.

Hi James, I didn't place but I'm pleased with what I've done this year.  My other half said I looked tired and the line up was the toughest she has seen me in.

I really enjoyed the pro show, definitely a highlight.  It's the first time I've seen these monsters in the flesh.  Very impressive.

Congratulations on your class win Ben.

Great news that Sam won his pro card.  I'm also delighted for Michael and Julian taking the top two in the novices.  Two out of a number of people I've interacted with on social media throughout this process and then had the pleasure of meeting at various shows.

It was a very good show. Professionally run and smoothly executed. Well done to Lee and Amy for the energy and time invested. My sense is that everyone enjoyed themselves and the competitors were well looked after. The venue was excellent - spacious, good seating and an excellent foyer with lots of space to relax. For next time, I think there could be some refinement of the lighting to further enhance the experience of competitors, the audience and photography.

The classes were a decent standard with the top two in each being especially impressive. The standouts for me were Stuart McCullough and Peter Garay, Ben Howard and Dominic Haley and Sam Watt. Stuart was probably the hardest competitor in all the classes, his back shots were immaculate with shredded glutes (where shredded is no exaggeration!) and rock hard detail all the way down. I was especially impressed with Dominic Haley who looked great. It's the first time I've seen him and he has a really pleasing physique, great aesthetics and full muscle bellies. With sharper condition in his lower body he'll definitely win some overall titles. Sam Watt looked very good. Huge muscle bellies and real 'pop' to his physique. It was difficult to see how he could possibly be beaten carrying so much well proportioned mass. I had Stuart second in the overall.

As far as the pros go, I think only two guys were properly in shape: Adrian Grey and Gordie Adam. Adrian was unfortunate not to take it actually and probably lost out only on weak calves. He was properly conditioned. Rich Gozdecki was off. The softest I've seen him compete on stage actually. His overall shape and balance tipped the scale, however. He might be attempting to 'peak' for something else later on but he certainly ran the risk of defeat yesterday.

Some excellent female figure and physique competitors. My preference is the figure category and here the women were very well balanced and proportioned.

It was great to catch up with a few people too, it's been a while, especially 'mi old mucker' Dave  8). Lastly, I very much enjoyed presenting the trophies to the lightweights and especially to Stuart (since he and I go back to 2003) who thoroughly deserved his win!

A massively enjoyable show from my own perspective. I thought the quality was at another level. The qualification process did its job of eliminating those that we can respect for their own journey but perhaps would not feel they should be on a stage proclaiming itself as the cream of the country and aiming for national titles. I struggle to think of more than a couple who were not of the standard expected.

Slick ran show by Lee. No messing about by the backstage boys, classes were on, did their work, where judged, got their trophy, then their moment to savour, then off the stage and on with the next class. No flaffing about.

Pro class was a two horse race with Gordie right on their shoulders but not quite there. I thought Adrian came alive once he was moved to the middle and got the thing that I most enjoy about him, his attitude and swagger back, when he stomps and his face almost says "Yes, I'm here and this is my time." But Rich won over in the end with a slightly more complete package and everything working well together with a superior balance. I know Dean mentioned a lack of condition there and did to me at the venue but I thought he looked tighter than normal but I will say my seat was not close and my eyes truly are not sharp without my glasses.

I have one confession to make and that is that I have always thought Sam Watt was an arrogant so and so and was not much of a fan. I know I know, judging books by covers and from gossip and I should know better. Well he was sat with us for much of the show after the interval and he is actually such a genuine and nice chap. Really humble, polite and thoughtful. I am a convert and big fan of him not just on stage but as a man. Sorry Sam.

In the overall, he was a worthy winner. I had it between him, Stuart and Ben but had Sam pulling ahead, that mass is incredible.

My final thought was the most important and the overriding feeling of the day for me personally and that was to pray for a full recovery for Martin, the Over 40's third placed gentleman who collapsed backstage. His heart stopped and Alan Mack, Paul Douglas Waller and a woman who's name I am not sure about gave him chest compressions and shocked him with a defibrillator to save his live. It is just a silly sport really and life and death is the most real thing that we all have and experience.

I really enjoyed the show.  Big respect to Lee and Amy for taking on such a beast.  It was very well organized and run, and Lee is one of the best with a mic.
It really was a who's who of bodybuilding, on and off the stage, as I had the pleasure of chatting to so many people there  -mr. Jon Harris, John Bibb, Pete Clarke, Alan Mac, Mark Oaks, Tony Monty just to name a few, not to mention the forum fam Toby, Scott, Nic, Ben - the list goes on!
I liked the venue, and the amenities were great.  Like Dean said, a few tweaks and it would be the best ever.  The pro show was stunning, (obviously a massive fan of Adrian, from spending time with him in the states last year)  plus never seeing Rich in the flesh competing before.  Rich was big, and leanest I've seen him, but I think Adrian still topped him in that respect, but Rich's overall balance pipped him (in my opinion).  I think they could have been milked a bit more and made to go  at least one more round of posing (even if just for the audience!).  The way Adrian lights up a stage is truly amazing, and his smile is like a light bulb up there, making it look so effortless.
Especially great to catch up with the old squad from last year, especially Toby and Nigel St. Lewis, plus Adrian, Marcos, Hayley and co.  Very interesting speaking and listening to Gavin Gibson too - he certainly knows his Onions.
Bit of a shock with the Swiss masters guy - a bit scary, especially for those who initially found him.  Hopefully he makes a full and speedy recovery.

I didn't see anyone!  :-[ No idea how, I'm not blind but managed to not see anyone, except Tony Monty who I spotted in the auditorium!

I really enjoyed the show. Venue was ace. Nice big stage, great open area for food/snacks/chilling. Lighting was a little bright for me, but better than the old venue where one side was slightly darker.

Standard again I thought was great. I was really really impressed with the Pro Men's Bodybuilding. I've only seen Rich guest pose and he looked awesome in the line up -so wide! I love really tall big, impressive Heavyweight pro's. The two with me preferred Adrian, I preferred Rich and thought they were blind  ;D

Ladies Bodybuilding were two great line-up's. Really motivating.

Ladies Figure tough line-up, those girls looked really hard to me!  :o I liked the girl in 2nd. I also loved a tall blonde girl who didn't place, her name is escaping me this morning... #oldage

I even watched Bikini and Men's Physique. I found them really hard classes to judge in terms of size required. The men's winner stood out for his stage presence and for Bikini I liked Billie(?) in the red bikini. Thought some of the girls were a bit big.

That poor Masters guy looked like he was struggling onstage. Hope he recovers fully. And was Yvette Arthur ok? She looked like she got a bit dizzy too...

All in all, a great day. Really pleased I went.

Now... where can I get one of those gear free rear tshirts? Saw quite a few in the audience. They weren't selling them on the stand.

Oh and as Im known for being super honest the videos and pictures I have seen I think Adrian beat Rich. He had a more aesthetic shape for me with just as much muscle and balance (didnt notice the calves) and his condition seemed better than Rich's.

Just being honest but Im sure it was close and both looked great as did Geordie and Sam. Peter Garay didnt look as hard as the BNBF finals in the pic I have seen. Thats about all I took from being an arm chair internet fan.

Good Show, I was a bit late on account of a busy morning but managed to catch the end of the masters class onwards;

I couldn't really judge it as the trophies were being handed out as I arrived but Richard Walker seemed to bring razor sharp condition and I noticed that Wes Clarke was in very good shape and had the better structure but when someone can get as lean as Richard and they have balanced musculature its a hard act to beat.

In Novice Michael Sheun had an outstanding structure and great development from the rear, his condition was not as razor sharp at it had been earlier in the year when winning the NPA and BNBF novice classes but he had IMO the most evenly developed physique on stage in good enough condition to present a package worthy of first place. The gent they placed in first was absolutely peeled and was probably one of the leanest on the day but was slightly less blessed in structure and symmetry. Still the gent had obviously worked his jaffas off.

Mens Physique and womens bikini I didn't really bother with, I think I went for a coffee and chinwag with Monty and Dean while these were going on.

In women's bodybuilding we had the slightly bizarre situation where Yvette Arthur looked on the verge of passing out and had to be given water by Mark Oakes. I am not really sure what was going on but I do dislike it when it seems competitors dehydrate themselves to extreme levels. THis is natural bodybuilding after all. In terms of the physiques presented it was a very very strong lineup with a good blend of extreme condition from Yvette and Karon and some serious tissue on show from Nicola and another lady in a pink bikini who's name escapes me but she was very impressive. I personally am not a fan of the trend that exists for condition to get weighed quite as heavily as it seems to in womens bodybuilding but that is just a personal opinion.

The Lightweight competitor Stuart McCullough was very impressive, outstanding posterior chain development and a properly developed and conditioned back and hamstrings. I am good friends with Peter Garay who placed 2nd and in spite of Peter edging the front and side shots in terms of symmetry and structure he was behind in terms of condition and the rear shots. His condition although better than it has been in the past just wasn't all the way dialled in and if he can get to that spot he would be hard to beat. Steven Cheng looked great and I really respect how much effort he ahs put into this season. A chap called David North I think was in 3rd, very sharp but lacked the development and structure that Peter and Stuart had.

Middles had Ben Howard who I have been looking forward to watching compete, Big Dom who have a chatted to at the MWC and a very impressive physique as mentioned and Gordon Greenhorn who is a fellow powerlifter ending up in the top spots. Again a good class to watch with Ben Showing great hardness and detail from behind aswell as plenty of muscle in the front shots. Dom looks great, his shape is fantastic and Gordon is another competitor who has a complete, heavily muscled physique.

In the heavies it was great to see Pete Bullard on stage, it was the first time I have seen the man from the south compete and his conditioning was very impressive to the point where he was probably the hardest guy on the stage next to Sam. I had also never seen Alan Mack compete and he is a very animated guy with a great free posing routine, the posedown though consisted of him running into the audience to grab his kids, shouting out battle cry's and trying to shove Sam Watt aside which didn't go very well for him ( a swift should barge off the stage from Sam calmed him down.) Sam was a well deserving winner and was probably a good way ahead of the pack.

The pro class pitted shear size and balance of Richard against the superior conditioning, taper and rear shots of Adrian. I think that when it came to hardness in the legs, hamstrings and glutes Adrian was ahead but in terms of overall development throughout the physique then Richard was in the lead. I saw it as being very tight with Adrian being let down by his calf development and Richard could of been charper in the abdomen/quads but that may of been at the expense of exhibiting the muscle fullness that is his trademark. Good battle.

A good entertaining show and it was great to have a laugh with a lot of familiar faces from the past and some new guys. Really had fun spectating with Dean and backstage with a good bunch of lads in Nick Adams, Michael Sheun, Dave Oakes and Peter Garay Backstage.

Yvette is fine. I had to help her get dressed and got her to lie on the floor with her feet up....Karen Gunson went to get her a sweet milky coffee and some officials from the venue brought her some water in...they continued to look after her. When I spoke to her she told me her coach had advised her not to drink water!! NO WATER ALL BLOODY DAY!! I was furious and said her coach needs effing shooting.

Ladies in pink were Alison Todd and Eve Cooke who had a dark pink/red bikini on (Eve had red hair and plaited). Alison was to the right of the stage, Eve to the left.

Thanks Toby.  I loved those shots.  In fact, all of them I've seen have been great.  The background is just "as is" though, with no tweaking.  You know I'm a stickler for that....

The rest of the winners shots and the results should be on the website very soon.  Obviously, looking after Martin and his family took priority in the days following the show and I only got to look through the photos late on Thursday night after we'd established what was happening with him.

And on that note, Martin and his brother were flown home Friday morning and he's in hospital in Bern, Switzerland now.  Up and about and playing video games today so on the mend.....

Really pleased to hear that Martin is on the road to recovery. It has touched me so much that I have written an editorial this week in my newspaper about first aid and the need for defibrillators. My ex wife and still one of my closest friends runs a charity which funds them. She founded it with our daughters following the death of her long term partner 22 months ago. There were no 24-hour access defibs in our town and she has now raised money for and installed 9 of them around the town.

So like I said, this is all a subject close to something we are working on back home and I had been terribly worried about Martin and that was my overriding emotion after the show. Well done to all involved in helping him

Definitely and they are so easy to use. They tell you what to do as long as you know the safety rules. I wouldn't want anyone to use one unless trained though as there can be dangers and it could leave the user up for major trouble when only trying to help.

However, if training can be organised then they are absolutely required everywhere. So so important.

It was an honour to of stood on stage with such a great champion (4x world champion😲)it's great to hear that he is on the mend .
