I've been wondering if there was any freeware for video analysis and I recently stumbled across a video on Bryce Lewis's youtube page that talks about a bit of free, motion tracking software that was developed for physics education but he shows how it can be used to analyse your lifts as well. I haven't tried it myself yet but it looks pretty cool. Some may say its not really necessary, which is probably partly true, but it provides some useful information with a bit more accuracy than going by eye, and if your a bit of a nerd like me then you can get some pretty cool data as well. Anyway, link to the video where he shows an example of how you can use it is below. There is a link to download the software in the video. Thought some people might find it useful or interesting:

I use coaches eye and platform helper. platform helper is really easy to use and for little effort does a good job of tracking bar path - much more applicable for olympic lifting though

I watched a short video on platform helper, it seems like a really easy to use efficient way of tracking bar path. I also looked at the coaches eye website and couldn't see a bar path tracking feature anywhere, do you know if it has one Glen? I couldn't investigate myself as I don't have a smart phone atm anyway but probably will do at some point.

One of the cool things about 'tracker' is that it gives you information on velocity and acceleration as well as bar path which can be insightful and help monitor your speed through tough/sticking points.

Although I don't use it myself, a lot of the guys on my unit use Coaches Eye and have had nothing but good things to say about it.

Have you got the free version or upgrade version Mon? Is there a bar path tracking feature in either?

The free one mate. All I've seen is the video that you move along with your finger.
