Hi everyone,

This is my first post on here, hope you can advise me...

I recently asked my GP to check my testosterone levels and the results came back quite low. They are in the low end of the range, but not low enough to be offered TRT.

My question is: Is there anything I can do naturally to help my test levels?

I'm age 40 and only started bodybuilding seriously 12 months ago. I'm very strict with my training and diet and have made steady progress over the last 12 months. However, I'm feeling quite deflated since knowing my test is low as I feel this is seriously going to limit what I can acheive.

I've re-asessed my diet recently and included more fats. Also started supplementing with high strength cod liver oil and vitamin D3. My energy levels do feel slightly better.

I've also looked at so called 'test boosters' but struggled to find any hard evidence they actually work. There seems to be very mixed views out there from people that have used them. What are your views? Pine pollen, bulbine etc?

Many thanks for your help.

Get your saturated fat in your diet egg yolks, coconut oil, steak etc.

Zma before bed gives you great deep sleep and will allow your body to produce maximal testosterone as the levels peak during deep sleep.

D aspartic acid may also help the is a small amount of research saying it might and a few people have noticed benefits.

Hey thanks for your reply Damon,

I'll look into D aspartic acid and give that a go. Heard of it but didn't realise it could help test.
Thanks again for your help,
Much appreciated 👍

Hey thanks for your comments guys,

Damon, Monbeef and Dan94,

I've looked into DAA and yes it sounds good from what I've read. Apparently it's best to cycle it, like 2 weeks on, 1 week off as it raises test levels up to 40% but only for about a week and then drops again. But that's good, I can work with that. I ordered some last night, 100g for 6 so can't hurt to try it. Thanks guys.

Dan94, I had the test done about a month ago and got my GP to print this off for me:

Se calculated free testosterone  0.19 nmol/L
Serum testosterone 11.7 nmol/L
Serum albumin 47 g/L
Serum sex hormne binding glob 43 nmol/L

Thanks again guys 👍

If I remember correctly the range for serum test is 9.9-27? I think if it's below 12 they have to treat you.

What's your LH like?

I think it depends on the lab - on the results there should be a reference figure. I've seen 7-30 as being 'normal.' Something like sub 7 is treatment, and 7-11 is investigate and potentially treat (depending on age, general health, etc.).

LH is a good shout - may give an idea what's going on. FSH would also be interesting.

Thanks for your replies,

You are right, it depends on the lab. The 'normal' range I have on my print out is 7.6 - 31.4 for Serum Testosterone.
So I'm right at the low end but my GP said it's within the range so it's normal.

So what is LH and FSH? Is that to do with the pituitary gland? My GP did check my thyroid and that was fine, so would that mean that my pituitary gland is fine as the thyroid is under the control of the pituitary gland?

I start supplementing DAA tomorrow. Going to cycle it, 2 weeks on, 1 week off, starting 3g a day for first cycle then keep increasing it up to 10g a day. I'll see how that goes over the next couple of months 👍

Good luck, suggest you build up the dosage slowly to prevent digestive issues.

LH is leutinising hormone and FSH is follicle stimulating hormone. I mentioned them as it can give an idea as to what the cause of the lower test levels are. i.e. Is it the brain not sending the signal to the leydig cells (which, as you said, is the pituitary gland bit) in the testes or is the testes not producing enough hormone.

You look to be a fraction outside the range for investigation. As such, DAA is a good bet. Try Zinc (around 30mg per day - or as Damon suggested ZMA) and also Vitamin D (2500-5000iu per day). On the DAA, there probably isn't much need to go up to 10g day. That could lead to the digestive issues that Keith mentions.

I use this one: https://xxlnutrition.com/be/nld/xxl-nutrition/xtreme-test

Lots of solid ingredients in one, not too expensive and they ship to the uk.

Update:

Thought I'd keep you guys updated...
I'm now on day 6 of DAA, 3 grams per day. I hadn't really noticed any difference until today... Really felt different in the gym this morning, more aggressive, lifting more than normal and getting an extra rep or two on each set aswell.. BEAST mode!💪💪💪

Going to see how things go over the next week, but pretty sure this stuff is working! 👍

Thanks again for the advice guys 👍
